Javier Bardem opens up about his role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'
&#; -- Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem opened up about playing Captain Jack Sparrow's nemesis in the fifth "Pirates" installment in an interview with "Good Morning America," saying he tried "to create a human being behind a monster" while playing his character.
Bardem plays Captain Salazar, a former Spanish Navy officer who was turned into a ghost and is now out for revenge against Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp.
The Spanish actor told ABC News that his secret for playing the villain in movies, despite being a self-proclaimed "nice boy" in real life is "having the good material."
"Where you can have layers to play that’s the fun part,” Bardem said.
"At the end of the day what you're trying to do is to create a human being behind a monster, and that's the most important thing."
