His full name is Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Idris Al-Shāfi’ī and belonged to the Qurayshi clan of Banu Muttalib, which was the sister clan of the Banu Hashim.
Imam Shāfi’ī was born in the year 150 AH (767 AC) in Gaza, Palestine. This is the same year the Great Imām Abū Ḥanīfah passed away. He lost his father during infancy and was raised by his mother under very poor circumstances. His mother decided to move to Mecca where their relatives lived.
